The entries, arranged chronologically and including black-and-white portraits, chronologies, and references, are focused on policy but also reveal the characters of the men as well as their accomplishments and shortcomings in the political arena. An appendix provides tables that show each man's election results, administration, family data, and "Unusual Facts." The last category includes interesting tidbits, such as the fact that George Washington never had any wooden teeth but did have his horses' teeth brushed daily, and James Garfield entertained folks by writing Latin with one hand and Greek with the other.

About the Author
Neil A. Hamilton holds a B.A. and an M.A. in history from the University of Miami and a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Tennessee. He is currently a professor of history at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. Hamilton also serves as adjunct professor of American history at University of South Alabama. A member of the Authors Guild and the Organization of American Historians, Hamilton is the author or coauthor of nine nonfiction books, including The ABC-Clio Companion to the 1960s Counterculture in America, Militias in America: A Reference Handbook, and the first edition of Presidents: A Biographical Dictionary for Facts On File.

Great reference aid & and informative

This is a great book that I have often reached for when looking for information regarding one of the Presdients of the U.S. This book gives a detailed written biography of each President and a chronological outline of their life. At the back of the book, there is an Appendix listing each President with the following data:
Election results; Administration Information; Family Facts; & Unusual Facts. This book is great for serious research as well as trivia purposes. Did you know in the election of 1820, James Monroe received every electoral vote except one????

About this book - "The Blues Scales: Essential Tools for Jazz Improvising"
I learned quite by accident from the forum "All About Jazz." As a jazz educator with a large experience I am constantly looking for educational material on jazz harmony, theory, improvisation and composition, and also on specific topics - like this book of Dan Greenblatt.
Question the use of blues scales in improvisation has always regarded books on improvisation, and one would ask: "What is new, this book adds to the theme than others? "
Blues scales - a topic that usually takes a maximum of 2 pages a regular book of jazz theory, here extends to 80 pages.

Firstly a clear and precise representation of the two basic blues scales - major and minor. This division is clearly and systematically preserved in all musical examples till the end of the book.

Since the beginning of exercises are given to each of these scales separately, and then demonstrates the transition from one type to another blues scale in the same melodic line. Along the way, points to the difficulty for a jazz musician in the constant use of these scales that introduce an element of monotony in the refined jazz melody. This view inevitably leads to a situation where the mutual infiltration of the blues and non blues elements in improvisation (chapter 3,4) - in bebop, fusion.
In addition, the book provides a blues vocabulary of real, rather than contrived blues licks, which are connected not just with a guitar. Here I really do not have enough examples of blues vocals - in the end, Louis Armstrong played blues on trumpet exactly as he sang ; the same can be said about Ray Charles, and his playing on piano and saxophone.

In general, the book is very practical, contains a lot of exercise, highly professional recorded examples and playbacks for training.

More of the same fake intelectual BS.

This book is just more of the same politically motivated propaganda we have been fed for the last seventy years. It is based on the same mentally incestuous circle-jerk that produced most of modern American history, where Pier-review counts more than original sources. Barton's sources include ORIGINAL Jefferson documents that are not even in the national archive, so the FACT that he has better information can not reasonably be debated by any rational person. All this author depends on is the "Opinions" of other "like minded" PHDs. IE more politically brainwashed pseudo-intellectuals without the first real clue of historical fact because they were taught by textbooks written by the same method. the entire process has become a exercise in circular logic that only leads down the toilet. DO not waste your time with this TRASH.

Don't bother. Read Barton's Book

David Barton's books are impeccably documented and should be read by all. I dare say some of those who love this book that is based only on opinion may have atheists leanings and are motivated to destroy anything that attacks their far-left agenda. Atheists want everyone to believe Jefferson was a fellow atheist or at least a secularist. In truth, Jefferson never missed a church service because he felt Christianity was the greatest religion and he (Jefferson) wanted to set the proper example by attending regularly. Read Barton's book.

For many reasons, I consider this the last of the series. Fleming didn't finish "The Man With The Golden Gun" and was ill when writing the rough draft that was left behind at his death. It was simply awful, especially given Cmdr. Fleming's own experience with British Intelligence.
"You Only Live Twice" finds Bond in a slump, unable to recover from the murder of his wife of only a few hours on their honeymoon. He's been eased back into work, but has literally made a mess of 2 missions and M is seriously considering revoking his Double-O status.
The Service consulting physician is fond of 007, and suggests an alternative. He states a man of Bond's psychological makeup cannot rise unless he is challenged against overwhelming odds, so he suggests giving him a literally impossible mission to accomplish and free reign to do it.
Unlike the usual assassination assignments, Bond is asked to travel to Japan and make contact with the head of the Japanese Intelligence Service, a mysterious man of which little is known other than his name; Tiger Tanaka. This is to be primarily a diplomatic mission, and he is to offer to trade British Intelligence resources & information in exchange for the treasure trove of Japan's Russian spy network. It is thought highly unlikely Japan will work with the British and will be a coup if Bond pulls it off. Bond accepts, and begins his adventure to the Far East; another routine assignment with more than meets the eye, scores settled with Ernst Blofeld, ninja training, and a second chance at life.

Most people are familiar with the films of James bond, agent 007, licensed to kill, but the novels written by Ian Fleming can be very different from the books that provide their names. Certainly this is the case in "You only Live Twice." Both the film and the book are set in Japan but beyond that they part ways quickly.

In the book James Bond is nearly finished. 8 months after the murder of his wife Tracy at the end of "On Her Majesties Secret Service" he has gone from M's best man to the dregs of the service. M, considering his dismissal is prevailed upon to give Bond one last chance.

Bond is promoted out of his beloved 00 section and transferred to the diplomatic branch with the code number 7777, and given a near impossible mission. He is go to Japan and convince the head of the Japanese Secret Service to share with Great Britain their decrypts of top secret Soviet messages. The problem is that post WW2 the United States views Japan as its private preserve and does not like poachers.

The rather more serious problem is that Bond does not have much to bargain with and when it is quickly revealed that the Japanese are not interested in his one bargaining chip he is left with very little to go on.What he has is his own life and skills, and in return for these magic decrypts, Japan requires Bond to kill a Swiss botanist named Dr. Shatterhand, a man of evil intent and deed who, for political reasons the Japanese police cannot move against but a gaijan whose arrest if he fails cannot be tied to the government? This is acceptable.

This is actually one of Fleming's weaker outings for Bond. Although he is in full force in his pacing and plotting and character development, part of what is missing is the setting. During the Second World War, Fleming was deeply involved in the planning and control of British and American espionage units and his writing carries the flavor of how things really work, a far cry form the gadgets and gizmos of the films,

However part of the charm of the books is his descriptions of the places where Bond's missions take him. Fleming knew France, Jamaica and the United States well and this carries over in his descriptions of the places. The reader truly gets a feel of the casinos, the beaches, the hotels and the streets. But Fleming did not know Japan and this is reflected in his writing, details that are common in other books are lacking here.

If this is the first Bond book you've read, it is highly enjoyable but if you are well familiar with the books by Fleming, this will be a little disappointing. James bond is still in effect with all his prowess but the world he is moving in, compared with earlier books, is empty and unfulfilling.

Vance is fast becoming the voice of James Bond on audio books and does a masterful job of working his way through Fleming's rich cast of charatcers.

Love Ian Fleming's Bond. The stories are well told and timeless. Totally worth a read for those times when you don't want to digest a lot of brain food.

Best cookie cookbook I've ever found.

If you are considering Mrs. Field's Cookie Book, you won't be disappointed. I've used the recipes from this cookie cook book for at least 10 years, now, and everyone who has ever tried one of my cookies says that they are absolutely wonderful!

In a previous review, the reviewer stated that Mrs. Fields recommends baking times that are too long. This isn't true. She uses lower oven temps in her recipes, and this calls for longer baking times. (The lower temperatures keep the cookies from burning easily.) Just wanted to pass this info on. Have fun baking cookies! :)

A small collection of solid cookie recipes, but don't expect the taste known as the Mrs. Fields brand

This is a cookie recipe book I've reached for many times. Although it is a small collection of around 70 recipes, I have not had a batch turn out badly, and it has loads of ideas --especially if you enjoy holiday cookie baking.

Divided into the sections of:
drop cookies
fancy cookies
filled cookies
bar cookies
and special treats, it makes it easy to locate a cookie that suits your mood, especially because there are color photographs of every cookie at the top of every recipe.

Instructions are simple and even include photographs to illustrate certain steps, such as rolling cookies or dipping in chocolate, so that all is clearly understood.

All recipes are printed on glossy paper--easy wiping.

You will find all variations of cookies, such as basic sugar cookies, snowy white chocolate crescents, chocolate sandwich cookies, fruit fille jewels, custard filled cookies, triple layer lemon bars, Caramel filled brownies, and even cakes and pies.

Will you find a chocolate chip cookie recipe? You betcha...but don't expect to replace your trips to the Mrs field's counter. Mrs. Fields noted herself that this is simply a collection of recipes she loves but not those of her store. To get the taste of her cookies, you gotta make flour from grinding oatmeal to a powder which won't be found herein.

But if copycat taste of her brand isn't your goal but, instead, a truly solid collection of recipes I have personally tested for years with flawless results...I think you will find it here. It is my go-to book for cookie batches and truly a "keeper".

Negatives: some recipes are common and for a small collection, that may or may not be appreciated. No nutritional info. But I think that is to be expected in a sugar and butter filled cookbook, chocolate chip cookie recipe is just plain ol' Tollhouse you already know and love rather than the signature Mrs. Fields taste.

Conclusion: the Mrs. Fields name is for marketing, but the collection is one of great cookies, bars, and even some cakes and pies that all produce great results for this cook.

The BEST Cookie Book. BUY IT!

The Egg Nog cookie recipe is worth the price of this book alone. It is a favorite of our son and thankfully the stores here have egg nog available between October and February. I do substitute Macadama nuts in the Chocolate chip cookie recipe. Her Peanut butter cookies are awesome. Oh and the Lemon Poppy Seed cookies are GREAT! I appreciate the layout of the book. The ingredients are listed then the simple instructions for mixing and baking. The photographs unlike some cooking publications actually look like what the cookie will look like. Nothing is more disappointing than making something and seeing it has no resemblance to the photo.
Another nice thing about her cookies is men love them and so will women. But having sons and a husband who LOVE great tasting non frilly cookies her cookies are the ONLY ones they have given 5 STARS too. That says ALOT!

According to the GREAT book The Primal Feast: Food, Sex, Foraging and Love, by Susan Allport (great reading on human and animal nutrition from the percpective of health, evolution, and culture), Ellen Dierenfeld is (was?) head nutritionist at the Bronx Zoo and director of the Zoo Nutrition Center , which consults with zoos worldwide on nutrition questions. Dierenfeld is also author of a book on the nutrient composition of prey animals.

William S. Maxfield, M.D., [Odessa, Florida] is a board-certified physician in hyperbaric medicine, radiology, and nuclear medicine. He is one of the nation s foremost experts in hyperbaric medicine, pioneering its use to treat wounds, brain trauma, multiple sclerosis, and other conditions. He has served on the faculties of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine, and LSU Medical School. He has also served as the chief of the Radioisotope Laboratory at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, M.D. Dr. Maxfield was chief of the Radiation Therapy Department and co-chairman of the Nuclear Medicine Laboratory at Ochsner Clinic and Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans."

"The Oxygen Cure" describes how hyperbaric oxygen therapy works, what it's used to treat in the USA, and additional conditions that it can be used for based on studies from around the world. The author looked at each type of injury or disease (like traumatic brain injury or burns) and described how HBOT has been successfully used. He included case studies describing the person's condition, their treatment, and the improvement seen when using HBOT.

While doctors could use this to become educated about how HBOT can be used, the main audience seemed to be the average person who is looking for help with some of these conditions. He described some clinics where they're informed about and willing to treat FDA approved and non-FDA approved problems, about what it'd cost, and even some ideas on how to potentially get your insurance to help pay for the treatments.

The author is trying to increase awareness so that more people can benefit from HBOT and hopefully prompt the FDA to recognize that HBOT can be safely and effectively used to treat many more conditions. It's very sad that our wounded veterans aren't getting more access to HBOT. Overall, I'd recommend this book to those interested in learning about HBOT and what it can do.

After reading The Oxygen Cure I went to a HBOT specialist to treat my arthritis. I could hardly walk down the stairs, and now I'm riding a bike again. This is truly a remarkable treatment that should be widely used in this country. Do yourself a favor and get this book!
