This reader found "The Family of Woman" to be a touching compilation of photographs and quotes that involve and refer to women. Although it was copywrited in 1979 the content is timeless and relevant to the issues of todays women.

This is a great book of photographs. I hate to use the word touching, because it is so cliche, but it really is a touching collection. It trully honors women and womanhood. The photographs are wonderful (though there are these occassional blank pages scattered throughout that sort of threw me off) and there are a smattering of great quotes that celebrate womanhood.

I really like this book for its history of the M1 helmet. It has a lot of information that I have not seen in any other place. Pictures are great and most are in color. The section on the marked helmets is good too. Caution with this because you will want to try to get all the variations to complete your collection that you may not even be aware of!

Author's experiences are very interesting

Holmes was the consummate sociopath and does not appear to have had an once of humanity.

If you like things that go bump in the night with an historical bent, you'll like this. Some may be put off by the writer's casual style but I enjoyed it. If you have read "The Devil in the White City," this is a good follow up. The author has a good attitude toward the paranormal.

Good read that challenges the stories about HH Holmes

Although this was a very short book, I thought it was interesting. It presents a different perspective on the validity of reports about H.H. Holmes. The author presents a skeptical viewpoint that was a nice way to balance the content from The Devil in the White City, which is a book I love. He provides a tour of the foundation and basement where the castle stood. The castle burned in a fire, so it isn't a tour of the building, just the basement and foundation around the current-standing post office. At the same time, he talks about an encounter he had that's rather spooky. He provides a link to the recording as well to back up the report.
The only negative is the length of the book. It is short. The last portion of the book is a preview of another book he wrote. It's a long preview, so it looks as though they included it to add more pages. However, I'm glad I purchased it.

Entertaining and Informative

After Dr. O'Malley spoke at R. Julia Booksellers, I purchased her book for a friend who is experiencing a set-back. My friend found it so helpful that I secured a second copy for myself. Tough Cookies Don't Crumble is full of encouraging life lessons, set in an interesting style. The author is an excellent writer. It was entertaining and informative, which for me equals a great book. I look forward to Dr. O'Malley's next book!

I enjoyed her stories

Take this journey with Susan O'Malley, MD, and discover where you have found your self in similar circumstances. What did you do? How could some of her insights help take you in another direction? I have to admit, as a Nurse for over 40 years, I couldn't help but think " A Doctor who actually admits to self-doubt or missed opportunities?" "How refreshing!" So many of the interactions between healthcare workers could benefit from some of her honesty and self awareness. I enjoyed her stories, and those of the others in the book. Hope they inspire all readers to examine where they are going, and where else they want to go!

I never read so called 'self-help' books and it was only as a favor to an old classmate that I read this one. However, I could never have imagined what an impact Dr. O'Malley's words had on me. In sharing her story and those of many others, I was moved to do some long overdue introspection. As a result, I am finally ready to 'flip the switch ' and make an important change. Dr. Susan has an inspiring message told in a forthcoming manner. It's a quick read, but you'll probably want to reread sections. No matter where you may be on life's journey, you will certainly learn something.
