LIKE THE BOOKS, NOT THE PUBLISHER

UPDATE: As always, a great coloring book. BUT I could never download the coloring book. It would just take me to the WMC PUBLISHING page. That was where I happened to punch the "NEWS" button, where I got a political commentary blaming President Obama for the rise in coloring books because of our stress ...

"We live in a hectic world in which the demands on our time grow with each passing year. We also live in increasingly dangerous times, in which political correctness dominates and is leading us into a world that is becoming more dangerous with each passing day. This you might argue is nothing new and is something that has developed slowly over many years. Here, of course, you would be correct but one significant change has brought this to the forefront of all our minds in recent weeks – the loss of American dominance on the world stage..." It shows a picture of Obama next to the type.

This kind of rhetoric I do not like and will never buy any more books from this publisher.

Lots of fun!!

Lots of great pictures that will be fun to color. So many of them brought different friends to mind. It will be fun to color these and give them to those friends as gifts. I really like that there are several different designs of the same animal so that I can make a set of them for a nice collage for someone to hang on their wall. For those that don't have more than one design, you can print several copies of the same design and just color each one differently and even use different mediums one each one.

I have the Kindle version and downloaded a PDF so I can print whatever I want on whatever paper I choose. There are a variety of wild and domestic animals included. Some of the pictures are drawn with heavy black lines which may detract from your colors. The zebra stripes are so heavy that there is little left for the colorist. Still it is a nice variety and the cow with a floral pattern is one of my favorites.

IN SEARCH OF THE TRUTH

A. h. macmillan, born in 1877 was just a young man in search of spirtual truth. He eventually came in touch with Charles Russell in 1900 who was the first president of the Bible Students (as Jehovah's witnesses was formally called).

After having his bible questions answered through the bible, Macmillan realized that it was the truth. For the next 66 years he was in the fore front of seeing the truth being spread throught the world, to what has become known in over 235 lands, with over 6 million witnesses to date.

He served with three of the presidents, Russell, Rutherford, and Knor. He relates the good times and also the bad times of the early history of the modern day Jehovah Witnesses. From being put into jail with 7 others, and going through two world wars, he relates honestly to the readers what the Jehovah Witnesses went throught to tell the truth of the Bible.

If you want to know the truth about Jehvoah's Witnesses, then this is the best book to read.

You will not be disappointed in this reprint of the highly popular book about Jehovah's Witnesses amd their organization. The superior quality of the hardbinding and the dustjacket are actually better than the original. Plus, at $99.00, it is far less than the exorbitant prices of $300.00 to $400.00, and even higher, that most people want for the original.

Macmillian life story growing up in an organization.This book tells about an organization better yet a people still on the March.Look at Africa,India,Russia just to name a few (Today),that has embraced the Truth.It tells the story of Jehovah's Witness Historically.Through two world wars, the arms race etc.Really no organization or man made institution particually can explain.'Why we are here,Where we are going' on a personel level.Yes you as a person your personality etc.Or on a mankind level..Words as poignant as ever in the present human situation.Does it put things from a divine point of view in perspective? For me YES.

Excellent Read!

If you are a follower of Renee Bernard in general and of her Jaded Series in particular, then you will not want to miss the next Jaded book, Obsession Wears Opals. With a calm and quiet professor-style demeanor, Darius Thorne is the next Jaded gentleman to meet his match. The storyline includes a damsel in serious trouble and a seemingly impossible situation. The secondary characters provide great dialog and humor while Darius and `Helen' forge ahead to outwit the evil enemy - - an abusive husband, no less - - in their midst. As Darius plots to save her, Helen makes a remarkable recovery - - physically, emotionally and mentally. Games of chess and a waltz forge an unbreakable bond between the two. I did not see the twist coming at the end, even though the sadistic husband did not receive an ending more befitting his character. Also, another clue surfaces concerning the Jaded's unseen predator from India. Obsession Wears Opals is another fantastic story by a most talented author.

This is the first book by Renee Bernard that I've read. I really liked the feel and emotional charged characters of the book. The story begins when Darius Thorne finds a woman unconscious on his property and promptly takes her into his home. She has been beaten and is so cold, he's afraid she might perish. Living in Edinburgh, Darius is a scholar as well as a member of a circle of gentlemen known as the Jaded. He notices that his guest is very beautiful and very English. She also has a wedding band on her finger. The only conclusion is she belongs to someone else. Lady Isobel Netherton has escaped her abusive husband. But under the protection of Darius she finds an unexpected desire for the handsome man. She also discovers that she is tired of being a pawn She wants to find out the secrets of her husband's sexual nature and demand a divorce. Isobel and Darius begin their journey together in friendship and find a love worth more that any jewel.

Once, a few years ago, I read a Renee Bernard HR, didn't think much of it and skipped her books from then on. Until now, that is. In a month sadly lacking much in the way of good HRs until Jan. 29, when Madeline Hunter, Meredith Duran and Karen Ranney will be releasing new ones, I picked up this Bernard HR at the library just because. To my surprise, I found that I had been missing out on a very good writer.

This is a beautifully-told love story. Darius is the most appealing beta male I've ever met in books. He's utterly sweet, charming, kind, noble, intelligent and even handsome. Oh, heck, I think I'm in love. And his love interest is a young woman quite worthy of him.

Darius rescues and hides away Isabel Netherton, an upper-class married woman running away from a horrendously abusive husband. Of course they fall in love, but it's one of those warm, fuzzy, and absolutely romantic falls. There are some roadblocks on the way to happiness: The existing husband, of course, and also the fact that lower-class Darius doesn't feel worthy of Isabel.

I wasn't so fond of the parts of the story involving the Jaded, Darius' group of friends who were all prisoners together some years ago in India and now are united by friendship, jewels and a common enemy. Possibly that part didn't appeal to me because I hadn't read the previous stories in this Jaded series, and there have been 4 before this one.

But as a stand-alone romance this is first rate and I loved the H and h.

Effective Storytelling

We used "The Pineapple Story" with our children when they were younger, and now we have a copy to use with our educational resource ministry.

Goodie and Oldie!

My daddy read this to me when I was little and we got if for a children's moment at church. It is an excellent story. Creative and teaches a good lesson. It is really good. My kids are 5 and 2 and it entertains the 5 yr old but is a little too deep for the 2 year old but she will grow to love it too.

When your pineapple isn't your pineapple

This is the anonymous true story of an American in Dutch New Guinea and his attempt to grow pineapples. He is thwarted in his attempt by both cultural differences and his own stubbornness and anger. After buying 100 pineapple plants and paying to have them planted he is rewarded with years of fighting with the natives. They see no problem with helping themselves to his pineapples, much to his chagrin.

At times hilarious, this book has a sobering conclusion in which he learns how to deal with the problem in a way that is acceptable to both him and the locals. Although ostensibly a book on "how to conquer anger" it goes far beyond that to deal with all of the emotions of a cross-cultural setting.

"The birth of Bangladesh" despite US, China and Pakistan.

The recent declassification of US Government archives has provided a rich mine of information on US behavior during the1971 war between India and Pakistan that liberated Bangladesh.

B Z Khasru, a US based journalist, has done extensive research of this newly declassified data to bring additional information about the 1971 events.

It was Bhutto, not Mujib, who broke Pakistan, says General Yahya Khan in an affidavit issued just before his death. All that Mujib-ur-Rahman wanted was for Bengal to have its fair share of growth, jobs, public purse and foreign aid; and the opportunity to grow through trade with India. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had a tacit preference to let East Pakistan secede (and leave the West to be governed by Bhutto) than be subject to a weak federation ruled by Bengalis. Bhutto preferred power than Pakistan.

Yahya was no angel either. His motivation to conduct elections was the probability of getting to stay in power for a long period of time since his Intelligence officers advised him that the elections might not result in a clear majority and the framing of a new constitution within 120 days after the elections is unlikely. His allusion to Mujib as the future PM of Pakistan was more to scare the politicians in the West and the army to unite.

However, Khasru's book is more about how US misplaced its principles and misread the tea leaves.

Nixon and Kissinger saw the entire problem through the narrow prism of securing friendship with China through the benevolence of Yahya Khan.

1. The aspirations of 75 million people in the East and the genocide unleashed on them were not important. When US Consul at Dacca, Archer Blood, accused the US Government of "moral bankruptcy" for its "posture of pretending to believe Pakistan Government's false assertions", Nixon recalled Blood and transferred him to Personnel.

2. The focus was on keeping Yahya Khan pleased since he was the conduit to the secret parley with China. US would continue to publicly support Yahya's unified Pakistan; if East Pakistan requires US support, US would decline to give such a support "based on the premise that in US opinion West Pakistan would not use force to bring a solution".

Nixon and Kissinger were amazingly consistent in "misreading" the tea leaves:

1. Kissinger theorized that India would not want an independent Bangladesh since that would induce India's West Bengal province to secede from India and unite with Bangladesh!

2. Nixon preferred to support Pakistan wherever possible because "Yahya was more decent to US than Indira Gandhi was". Kissinger agreed, "Yahya was decent and reasonable if not politically smart".

3. Kissinger felt Indian occupation of Bangladesh would make Pakistan's look like child play. When Indian army entered Dacca, Nixon asked: "You see those people welcoming the Indian troops. Why then are we going through this agony?" Kissinger replied: "To prevent the West Pakistan army from being destroyed; to retain our Chinese arm; to preserve balance of power with the Soviet Union".

Nixon had a strong bias against India. In his private conversations with Kissinger, Indians were referred to as "cowards" and "savages". Nixon tried to support Pakistan in several ways:

1. When his State department disagreed with Kissinger that US owed arms support to Pakistan (when Pakistan invoked the bilateral agreement with US and sought arms), Nixon orchestrated provision through intermediary countries. Jordan did provide aircrafts and pilots to Pakistan. Iran agreed to but rescinded in the last minute. Kissinger admitted in 1972 to China that US supplied arms via third countries. The augmentation did not have an impact.

2. Nixon urged China to move troops to the Indian border saying "The Indians have got to get a little scared". China did not oblige because of its concerns about Soviet intervention under the Indo Soviet treaty.

3. Nixon moved US Seventh fleet to Bay of Bengal to increase threat perceptions though this did not have any impact on the war.

4. Nixon warned Soviet Union that any help to India would leave a scar in US-Soviet relationship for many years after the war ended. Nixon told a visiting Soviet minister: "The Indians are cowards. They are raping and murdering. They are pretty vicious". (Historians would consider this to be a Presidential lie). Kissinger felt Nixon's statement would make Soviets reduce their support to India. They did not.

In Khasru's book, Indira Gandhi emerges as a good leader. She worked on domestic opinion before supporting Mukti Bahini. She worked on international opinion before invading East Pakistan. She read the geopolitical scenario rightly and concluded a treaty with the Soviet Union to ensure China does not start any conflict to step up pressure against India. She was firm in declining to conform to UN resolution (orchestrated by Nixon) to ceasefire and withdraw from each other's territories (the usual end for every India Pakistan war in the past).

In the end it came down to Nixon and Kissinger not reading an important import of that amazing document, the Declaration of Independence in US: "Whenever any government becomes destructive of man's inalienable rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, it was the right of the people to alter or abolish it".

Decent debut novel

3-3.5 stars. Blaire isn't sure where her future is going. She hasn't found anything that clicks with her or makes her want to pursue more in that direction. Mostly she feels inadequate compared to her lingerie model twin sister who is rich and famous. In the meantime, she's been given a journalism assignment about MMA fighters, a topic that Blaire is very unfamiliar with, but has no choice but to complete. She meets Tyler Wilder, one of the fighters, and immediately sparks begin to fly.

I liked Blaire's sense of humor and general personality, but her voice also came off rather immature frequently and made her sound more like a teenager at times. For someone who was fairly open-minded, she surprised me with how stubborn she could be when Tyler would try to prove to her that he was serious about liking her. Tyler himself was a bit of an alpha male and I liked him overall, but there were times I expected him to be more alpha and he wasn't. I liked the gentler side of him with Blaire but then sometimes I couldn't see what he saw in Blaire. It's a cute story overall, but lacked a bit of conviction for me to want to root harder for the characters due to Blaire's wishy-washiness.

I had high hopes for this book. I LOVED SPARROW and could tell that L.J. Shen is an amazingly talented author, but this book was too rated G for me. It was clean, the story was fast and the characters weren't as developed (compared to Sparrow and Troy). Perhaps the characters were too young for me to relate to and to get swept away in...Blaire is 23 and just graduated college while Ty is 26. The supporting characters are good but at the end, their stories kind of just fell by the wayside. Also, this book lacked the passion and sexy romance that Shen's last book had. Yes, Blaire and Ty have plenty of sex, but the scenes are not descriptive at all. What I also miss from this book is the sexy banter between the two main characters. Blaire wasn't what I consider a strong heroine and Ty, although depicted as an alpha was more of a softie. I give this book two stars solely because L.J. Shen is one of my favorite authors.

Really Great Book

I have been in a terrible book slump lately. I have had such high hopes for the books I have purchased and then I am seriously disappointed!! So, I am not sure if I liked this book because I went in with no expectations or if it was just that good...after mulling it over for a while, I think credit is due to the author for writing a book that pulled me out of my slump!!

The blurb was a nice brief over view of what the book had in store, so I won't rehash here too much, but I can say, I did not see the "secret" that Ty had coming. Kudos to the author. So many books right now have a big secret or big reveal that I always guess but I didn't see this one coming. And this one was totally believable and not convoluted like so many big reveals. For some people, it may be a deal breaker, and I like the fact that the author had a secret that really made the heroine, and thus the reader, think about decisions people make, how we live with those decisions, and how we learn to forgive. And most importantly, when we have to learn that forgiveness may not be something that is ours to give if a person's mistakes were made well before they even met us. What is required then is acceptance of who the person is now, and appreciation for how that person has grown. Great job to the author for adding this thought provoking element. I am being vague of course so I don't spoil the plot!

I liked Ty's character. He is pretty cut and dry. He didn't have the best home life growing up, and is now an MMA fighter because fighting is what he is good at. He has some rage issues, but he is fairly unapologetic for who he is. And the big question is whether or not Blaire can handle who he is. I think the book is more about Blaire, so we see a lot more of her character and get a lot more of her growth, and the author does a good job of laying it all out for us.

I would have liked to see Ty be a little more apologetic for keeping his secret, or have them spend a little more time talking it through, especially since he gave Blaire a hard time for keeping a secret earlier in the book in regards to her BFF Shane hitting on her(which is nothing compared to his secret). Just seemed inconsistent. It would also have been nice for Blaire to hold Shane more responsible for his interference in her relationship and maybe call her sister out for begin so self involved. It would have completed the picture a bit more in terms of her character growth. It also would have been nice if there was an epilogue. These issues didn't take away from enjoying what we were given, but for me it really does make the difference between 4 and 5 stars (and I never give 5 stars!!).

Overall, this was a great, enjoyable read. Blaire was a little annoying sometimes with her stubbornness and judgments, but she was a real character who you can relate to. These characters were not other-worldly beautiful or billionaires or any of that. Blaire is a lot like many 20- somethings that maybe bloom a little late and have no idea what the heck they want to do with their lives. These characters were real and approachable. Blaire is funny, and I found myself really laughing out loud at some of her inner and outer musings. She could pretty easily fit into my group of friends. I think anyone will really enjoy this book!
